CHANGE UNCHANGE

Acceptance of Change

"Change is the only constant thing in life" is said by a Greek philosopher Heraclitus. Everyone takes time to accept change. No one accepts a change in life so easily. Even a child takes time to adapt to a new place and becomes cranky and gradually when it gets adjusted there is a decrease in its crankiness. This shows that a child who doesn't seem to understand anything also resists change at first, then a matured adult who seems to understand things is also bound to resist a change as it is a human nature. But as matured individuals we should be able to overcome the resistance to change and try to reduce the time we take to adapt to a change and accept it fully. The more faster we accept to a change the more easy it becomes to enjoy the life

Relationship between acceptance of change and learning eagerness and Age

I feel that acceptance of change has a relationship with eagerness of learning of a person and their age. A young person is more ready to accept a change compared to an old person. A classic example we always see in our day to day life is a Child can operate a smartphone or a laptop more professionally compared to their grandparents. This is because of their curiosity or eagerness to learn the new gadget. An old person is also eager to learn the gadget, but the child's eagerness is much more than the old person and so he learns it faster compared to the later. The eagerness of the later is low because he might be having questions like what will I do by learning this now? How am I going to benefit from it? What is the use of it at this age? This shows lack of interest raised due to the age of the person.

One more example we see in our daily life is the use of facebook. Facebook was launched in the year 2004. Many youngsters moved from orkut to facebook gradually when its awareness was created. I created my FB account in the year 2009. I analyzed the friend list of my FB account, wherein I found that my friends who were above the age of 50 had created their FB accounts from the year 2014 i.e. a decade far from the FB launch year. This clearly shows that youngsters are more eager and ready to accept a change compared to the old beings.

I would like to list down one more example which was seen at my workplace. Our office used to operate on the traditional way of excel sheets to maintain records, but the management had a futuristic thought and hence planned to introduce an ERP (Enterprise resource planning) system to maintain records. The system was set and the training sessions were ON. In the training sessions, the younger employees learned the system faster compared to the ones beyond the age of 45-50. the later took nearly 6 months to learn the system.

Welcoming Change Happily

So far we have seen examples wherein humans generally resist change. But there are also changes which humans are eagerly waiting for. They welcome such changes with both hands wide open and big smile on their faces. a news of pregnancy, a newly wedded bride and groom, the news of a promotion or taking responsibilities are examples of such changes. To welcome these changes we humans make preparation for a grand welcome. We assume that, since these changes brings joy in our life, we accept and prepare ourselves for adapting to these changes. Other small changes we regularly bring in our routine lives are going our for dinner, weekend holidays, small family vacation, trips with friends, family or friend get together etc. Such Changes keeps us fresh and happy and so we plan such changes ourselves.

Internal & External Factors affecting Change

So far we saw, how we react to a change, but there are factors which causes change in our behaviour to which we call as "MOOD SWINGS". Physicians say that menses & pregnancy causes hormonal changes in women's body and that's the reasons for the change in behaviour in women.
In males also, hormonal changes at specific times causes changes in behaviour.

Apart from this internal factor (hormonal change), an external factor also cause changes in our behaviour. Changes in moons phases has a lot of impact on our human behaviour. To get an evidence on this, I experimented my behaviour on each day as per HINDU Calendar. Hindu calendar is set on the basis of moon phases, it's month starts with Pournima and ends with Amavasya. I used to note down my behaviour each day on a hindu calendar. I did this experiment for around 4-5 months and after analysis found that I used to be cranky on Asthami i.e. the eight day according to hindu calendar and on trayodashi i.e. the 13th day as per the hindu calendar. So later I decided to not get into debates during these days and try to cautiously control my behaviour. Even you can experiment and identify which moon phase affects you and which favours you.

Important Factors of a Change & How to face Change ?

If anything bad happens, we always say that they should do this, they should do that, they should have done this to resolve it, but we never try to start it ourselves. That starting from ourselves is actually a change. Always remember Change always starts from I, then spreads to we and then others. A change never happens all of a sudden, it moves ahead gradually and then reaches its highest peak. Reaching its highest peak means the change is now acceptable by you and others also and has become a habit or a routine life.

We hear that we must accept change, we must try to make a change, but is it that easy to make a or face a change everytime? NO, it isn't easy all the time. But we need to understand a few concepts wherein we can try to make or face a change without much hesitation.

Implement on your Thoughts & Start with Baby Steps

Whatever you have thought, give a kick start to your thoughts and commence implementation of your thought into practicality otherwise your thoughts would remain in thoughts only. Unless you don't implement you won't be able to understand the hindrances you would face in your journey. In order to start a change we need to go by baby steps. You need to set small small targets first and once a small target is achieved, set a new one and slowly and gradually you will also not realize that you have achieved your ultimate goal.
Lets take an example that we want to reduce our weight which is our ultimate goal for now. All of a sudden you can't lose a weight. So set a small target first.
1st target - wake up early in the morning (05:30 am)
First see how continuously you can wake up at your set time. If you could get up early hesitatingly that means you have accomplished your first goal. then move on to the next goal.
2nd target - do exercise/ yogasana/ walking/ jogging (whichever suits you the most) You can enroll yourself into a proper coaching for exercise and yogasana. Once this is achieved move t your next target.
3rd target - I will cautiously decide on my diet. Avoid junk food, oily stuff, street food, too much sweets etc. Once you achieve this target also, you would definitely reduce weight which is your ultimate goal for now.

Be Disciplined in your actions

In this entire process, You would have seen that Discipline plays a very important role. Without discipline a change cannot happen. If you wake up early 2 days, but then there is no consistency in waking up early, you won't be able to achieve your first target. So you must be determined to accomplish your goals and that happens by discipline. It is you only who can set discipline for yourself.

Try to gain Knowledge for achieving your goal

Also, information or knowledge plays a crucial role in creating a change. If one has a knowledge about how to reduce weight, which food to avoid, which exercise helps reduce fats from which area? what kind of yogasana helps in reducing weight is very important. If you don't have the knowledge don't regret about it instead you can have yourself trained by a proper Gym trainer or a yogasana coach who has the accurate knowledge to guide you in a proper direction.

Finally I would like to conclude to my topic by saying that, even a heart stroke moves Lub and Dub, a sine-wave is also moving up & down, a straight line on an ECG, indicates death i.e. no life. A regular breathing task also involves 2 parts - inhale and exhale (a slight change) then only we are able to breathe and live. That means Life is Change and Change is Life. So if you resist a Change, you are resisting your Life. So now, it is up to you to decide whether you want to resist Life or Accept life.

KEEP CHANGING, BE UPDATED, SO THAT YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL...
